How to Get to Sand Crabs OSRS: Every Route

How to Get to Sand Crabs OSRS: Every Route

Everyone tells new players to train at Sand Crabs. Almost nobody tells them the crabs live on an entirely different continent. If you have been searching how to get to sand crabs OSRS and wondering why your character is still standing in Lumbridge, this is the full answer: every route to the Hosidius coast, ranked by how fast they actually get you on the sand, plus the paid island option for when the beach is packed.

Where Sand Crabs Actually Are

Sand Crabs sit on the southern coast of Hosidius, in Great Kourend on the continent of Zeah. Open the world map and scroll west of the main Gielinor landmass and you will find it. The beach itself runs along the bottom of Hosidius, east of Land's End.

The good news for newer accounts: there is no quest requirement to reach Zeah, and the crabs themselves are about as dangerous as wet sand. They have 60 hitpoints, a max hit of 1, and every combat stat except hitpoints is level 1. That combination of high HP and no threat is the entire reason the beach is permanently busy.

There are also Sand Crabs on Crabclaw Isle just off the coast, and a few other spots further afield, but the Hosidius beach and the Isle are the two that matter for training.

How to Get to Sand Crabs OSRS: Routes Ranked

I have tested all of these at some point, usually because I forgot to bring the item that would have made it faster. Fastest first.

Route

Requirements

How it plays out

Skills necklace to Woodcutting Guild

A charged skills necklace

Teleport, run east, you are on crabs in under a minute. The standard route

Tithe Farm minigame teleport

Access to the Grouping tab teleport (Tithe Farm itself needs 34 Farming)

Free, lands just north of the beach, but shares the 20 minute minigame teleport cooldown

Fairy ring AKR

Access to fairy rings (started Fairytale II)

Lands at the Hosidius vinery, short run south to the shore

Xeric's talisman (Xeric's Glade)

The talisman, charged

Decent run south-west to the beach, fine if the talisman is what you own

House portal in Hosidius

25 Construction, house moved to Hosidius

Instant if your house is there, pointless if it is not

Kourend Castle teleport

The teleport unlocked on the standard spellbook

Longest run of the teleport options, use only if it is all you have

Boat from Port Sarim (Veos)

Nothing at all

Sail to Land's End, then run east along the coast. Slow, but it is how every account gets there the first time

My honest recommendation: buy a skills necklace the moment you can afford one. It is the cheapest quality-of-life upgrade in the game for anyone camping crabs, and the Woodcutting Guild bank being on the way is a nice bonus for restocking.

If you are on a fresh account with nothing unlocked, take the free boat. Veos at Port Sarim will get you to Land's End, and the beach is a straightforward run east from the dock. Do it once, set your respawn plans accordingly, and use teleports forever after.

Crabclaw Isle: When 10,000 Coins Are Worth It

Talk to Sandicrahb on the beach and he will ferry you to Crabclaw Isle for 10,000 coins per entry. The island has its own sand crab spawns and, crucially, far fewer people fighting over them.

Whether that is worth it depends entirely on world population. On a quiet world the free beach is fine and the 10k is wasted. On a busy evening, paying once and getting uninterrupted spawns for a full aggression cycle is easily worth the fee, because contested crabs can halve your XP per hour. I treat it like a queue-skip ticket: annoying to pay for, instantly forgotten once you are training.

One warning from experience: the fee is per entry. If you teleport out to bank, you pay again on the way back, so bring enough supplies to make the trip count.

What to Bring and How the Aggro Works

Sand Crabs are aggressive for ten minutes after you arrive. After that they go tolerant and ignore you, which is your cue to reset: run far enough away that the beach leaves your view, then run back, and the ten minute timer starts again. The vinery to the north is a comfortable reset point from most spots on the beach.

Since their max hit is 1, food is nearly optional. A few pieces for long sessions, your best melee gear, and that is the whole inventory. The real optimisation is standing in a spot where two or three crabs attack you at once, and those multi-crab tiles are exactly the kind of thing worth learning properly. The spot maps, gear breakdowns and realistic XP rates are all covered in this sand crabs guide, which is what I would read before your first long session there.

Per the OSRS Wiki's Sand Crab page, the crabs sit disguised as rocks until you walk near them, so do not panic when the beach looks empty. If the rocks are there, the crabs are there.

Banking and Getting Back

Nobody warns you about this part: the beach itself has no bank, so your restock route matters almost as much as your arrival route. The two sensible options are the bank chest at Land's End, a short run west along the coast, and the Woodcutting Guild bank to the north-east if you came in on a skills necklace anyway.

My routine on long sessions is boring and effective. Fill the inventory with whatever food I am bringing, train until the aggression timer needs resetting a few times over, then use the reset run itself to head towards Land's End, bank, and jog back with the timer freshly started. You lose nothing, because the aggro reset forced you to leave the beach regardless.

If you would rather not bank at all, that works too. With crabs hitting 1s, a full inventory of decent food lasts hours, and plenty of players simply train until the supplies run dry and teleport out.

Sand Crabs FAQ

Do I need any quests to get to Sand Crabs? No. Zeah has no entry requirements, and the boat from Port Sarim is free. Fairy rings are the only listed route locked behind quest progress.

What is the fairy ring code for Sand Crabs? AKR, which lands you at the Hosidius vinery. From there it is a short run south to the beach.

What combat level should I be? Any. With a max hit of 1 and 60 hitpoints per crab, they are safe from level 3 upwards, though you will obviously kill them faster with reasonable melee stats.

Before You Set Off

Do one thing before your first trip: put a skills necklace, or whichever teleport you own from the table above, on your action bar of habits. The single biggest time sink at crabs is not the training, it is players jogging back from Land's End every session because the free boat route became muscle memory. Sort the fast route out once and the beach is effectively next door for the rest of your account's life.
